Dysesthesia

Wood, Copper, Electrical Heated Wire, Powder Coat 4’3" x 7’7", 2011

Viewers are encouraged to consider and challenge their conceptions of comfort, touch, and the human desire to connect to other people and objects. The forms invite involved interaction and specific placement of the hands and body. Upon contact, the participant will discover that each form is warm. Not unlike the uncanny feeling of the lingering warmth of an abandoned seat, an absence necessitates a presence, and evokes a unique sense of empathy. Through this installation I propose that some kinds of intimacy are fragmented and momentary, and can be found in unexpected ways.
